None of us like to think that we are not long for this world and yet we have to face facts and make some hard decisions, especially if we smoke or drink heavily or have a family history of illness, disease and early death.
The reason I am saying this is because some pension companies offer enhanced annuities for those people who, for whatever reason, might not live as long as others. It sounds harsh and a little callous but it makes perfect financial sense – insurance companies would increase your premiums if you have health problems so why should pension companies not offer a discount if you are not likely to live as long?
Nobody wishes for an early death but you have to be practical and if your life expectancy might be shorter than normal for whatever reason then look for one of these companies which do offer enhanced annuities.
They will expect you to give a full and honest health history and may well consult your doctor or specialist for more information.
At least you will have more money for your final years to enjoy them and be comfortable – and you never know, with your new stress-free life you may defy all odds and live until you are one hundred years old, drawing your annuity as you go.
